Non-profit organizations understandably aim to dedicate most of their resources to their cause. But many are caught unaware of the costs of an incident when something goes wrong. Below are a few examples of claims PHLY has covered for our non-profit clients:

Malfunctioning Sprinkler System

Scenario

An engine overheats at a local food bank due to a malfunction of the sprinkler system's fire pump drive. The engine's cylinders are severely damaged and extra expense is incurred to rent a replacement engine during the time of repair.

Cost to the organization

The property damage in this scenario costs $26,700 -- which would have to be paid out of pocket in the absence of property coverage. But the extra expenses in this scenario are even more severe, totaling $75,000 in out-of-pocket expenses without insurance.

Backup Power Failure

Scenario

Employees discover they can't log on to their server and computers after a weather event. A subsequent claim investigation reveals a voltage irregularity caused a breakdown of the uninterrupted power supply (UPS) used to provide backup electrical power to their computer equipment. The non-profit organization's UPS failed to respond when primary electrical power was lost.

Cost to the organization

In addition to property damage of $38,000, the organization would have incurred an addition $1,800 Expediting Expense without insurance. PHLY's coverage is designed to protect non-profit organizations in these all-too-common situations.
