Four Non-Profits Score Donations from Philadelphia Insurance Runs for Charities

The Diamond Club at Citizens Bank Park sparkled as smiling faces filled the room for a celebration of four Philadelphia-area non-profits. It was a celebration for the beneficiaries of the Philadelphia Insurance Runs for Charities program, a partnership where PHLY donated $50 for every Philadelphia Phillies run scored in 2019. The ball club totaled nearly 800 runs, which resulted in a donation of $40,000 with $10,000 going to each of the four non-profits.

The charitable beneficiaries included:

  • Kencrest of Blue Bell, PA, which provides educational services to children and families in Philadelphia and community, based support to people with developmental or intellectual disabilities and their families in PA, DE, and CT.
  • Merakey of Lafayette Hill, PA, which is a leading developmental, behavioral health, and education non-profit provider offering a breadth of integrated services to individuals and communities across the country.
  • Horizon House of Philadelphia, PA, which helps those who desire to live independently and be fully engaged in their communities by offering community-based support in three areas: behavioral health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and homeless services.
  • Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, which coordinates a broad range of services that help older Philadelphians live as independently as possible.

Videos highlighting each non-profit's mission played for the room full of 80+ people before leaders from each organization shared a few words and accepted their donation on stage.

"I can go out and find an insurance company, but if I can't find a partner, I still have the worries about the risks that my organization is taking," said Jeff Wilush, President and CEO of Horizon House. "Working with an insurance company that understands what we do and, most importantly, why we do it - it's a partnership."

PHLY's agent partners from Willis Towers Watson, Conner Strong, The Graham Company, and CBIZ - the agencies that represent each non-profit - also attended the celebration.

"Philadelphia Insurance is a great partner. You are more committed to this industry than anybody in the insurance industry," shared Mike Mitchell, Vice President at The Graham Company and board member at Merakey.
