Playground Safety
In an effort to educate our policyholders about how to prevent or mitigate losses we periodically analyze large losses to determine how they could have been prevented. Our Lessons Learned bulletins illustrate specific details of losses and highlights factors which contributed to the loss.
We believe it is important to analyze past losses so that that our policyholders and PHLY can both learn from these accidents. This Large Loss Lessons Learned bulletin identifies the controls and preventative measures that should be in place for playgrounds. More importantly, it addresses key recommendations that if implemented will help to prevent, eliminate or mitigate the potential losses.

PUBLIC PLAYGR0UND SAFETY HANDBOOK - Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) presents playground equipment safety information in the form of guidelines. Intended for use by parks and recreation personnel, school officials, equipment purchasers, installers, and others interested in playground safety.
HOME PLAYGROUND SAFETY TIPS - Reports that each year an estimated 200,000 children are treated in U.S. hospital emergency rooms for home playground-related injuries -- mostly resulting from falls. Provides tips on protective surfacing, fall zones, reducing hazards, and maintenance.
CONTROLLING LEAD PAINT ON PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT - Investigation results by the CPSC relating to playground equipment containing lead paint including staff recommendations to control the hazards associated with older painted metal and wood playground equipment.
THE NATIONAL PLAYGROUND SAFETY INSTITUTE - Part of the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA), provides safety information for making sure that each playground is up to current national standards.
NATIONAL PROGRAM FOR PLAYGROUND SAFETY - NPPS is the leader in research, training, and development of S.A.F.E. play areas! NPPS' mission is to help the public create safe and developmentally appropriate play environments for children.
