Philadelphia Insurance Companies has created a partnership with Safe-Wise Consulting, LLC, to provide third-party safety and risk assessments for youth serving organizations associated with the Philadelphia Insurance Companies.

Safe-Wise’s focus is on key exposures including aquatic safety, child abuse prevention, employee safety and general risk management practices and asset protection. Safe-Wise strives to support an organization’s mission driven efforts while strengthening practices that ensure safety and responsible management of risks for the organization, staff and community.

Programs and Services
Safe-Wise understands the unique risks that are associated with the mission of youth agencies. They focus on core issues such as child abuse prevention, aquatic safety, employee safety, and program safety. They will work with your client to develop a professional and systematic approach to managing risks and making their facilities safer places to be.  Because of their unique combination of practical experience and safety knowledge, Safe-Wise can provide the insight to serve our clients efficiently and effectively.

Company and Staffing

Safe-Wise Consulting is a partnership of risk management professionals that offers insightful safety and risk management consulting services to youth serving organizations, such as YMCAs, JCCs and Camps, throughout the US. Their staff consultants have extensive local and national experience in operational leadership, along with strong safety and risk management knowledge. This combination of proven career professional with operations-based experience and strong safety knowledge uniquely enables Safe-Wise to provide consulting, training and support services, encouraging effective, practical and sustainable organizational processes.

Senior Staff:

Michael Gurtler, ARM - Partner and Consultant
Mike has been working with YMCAs and Camps for over 25 years. He began his career in Resident Camping and held a variety of YMCA program and administrative positions before becoming a CEO in 1994. After a successful term as CEO, Mike joined the national YMCA staff as a safety and risk management consultant. Before leaving YUSA in April of 2007 Mike held the position of Director of Risk Management Services. In this position his duties included providing strategic risk management direction for the organization and working closely with YMCAs throughout the country.
 
Mike brings this career experience to his risk management efforts; providing the knowledge and understanding that allows Safe-Wise to be both practical and insightful as it strengthens the safety practices of organizations.

Christopher Mogridge - Partner and Consultant
Chris has been a aquatics professional for over 40 years. His early career was spent in New York before moving through several CEO positions in the Northeast. He joined the National YMCA staff as a Safety and Risk Management consultant in 2002. In this position he provided direct risk management consulting services to YMCAs in the Northeast and took a leadership role in the development and implementation of the YMCA Lifeguard Rescue Ready program. Chris brings an extensive and varied background to risk management. Chris holds National YMCA Faculty, American Red Cross Water Safety and CPR Pro Instructor credentials.

Regional Staff:

Safe-Wise maintains a cadre of regional consulting staff that can assist organizations with their risk management efforts. All regional staff consultants have been recruited because of their successful experience, insightful consulting skills and their risk management knowledge.

Mike and Chris founded Safe-Wise Consulting in June of 2007 and have since nurtured the company into a premiere provider of risk management services to youth-serving agencies across the US.

Resources and Publications

Safe-Wise maintains a library of electronic resources that can be utilized by organizations in expanding their risk management knowledge and in developing practical practices.
