Account Management/Customer Service

Account Management Internship

The Account Management department supports the business goals of the company through interaction with agents, the Marketing team, policyholders, underwriters, and other internal and external customers. They are responsible for reviewing new and renewal submissions for completeness and acceptability, and forwarding them to Underwriting or Marketing Representatives for approval.

"As an Account Management Summer Associate, I am constantly funneling renewal policies. PATH is where I do most of my work on the accounts. I email the agents directly on the behalf of their account executive which is based on what solicitations are needed, need to be adjusted, or anything to overall do with the account. Having daily talks with my manager through all the processes gives me more insight on what account management is about whenever I have questions. Claims

Claims Internship

The Claims department is responsible for investigating and analyzing insurance claims to examine the extent of the Insurer's obligations. They settle claims with first and third party claimants in accordance with policy provisions and applicable law.

"As a Claims Summer Associate at PHLY, I really get all aspects of the insurance industry. Marketers sell our product, Underwriters write the policy, but in Claims, we are the product for our insured. As an intern, I help our examiners by creating documents that allow them to stay up to date with the ever changing laws and policies in each state. I contact law firms and defense councils, discussing the legality of claims and where liability lies for our insured. I attend mediations where both sides come together and try to agree on settlement of their complex and ongoing claims that are set for trial. I learn about all of our products and can see where exposures are in our products as they are happening. Compliance

Compliance Internship

The Compliance department ensures that PHLY is in compliance with state insurance laws, rules, and regulations. They makes certain that PHLY is offering our customers legal products and that the underwriting guidelines are followed. Compliance also makes sure the underwriting decisions are fair to all customers no matter who is underwriting the policy.

Human Resources

Human Resources Internship

The Human Resources department handles the recruiting and placement of workers, employee relations, payroll and benefits, and training and development of the company’s employees.

"As a recruiting Summer Associate, I work closely with the recruiting team on sourcing candidates for open positions and creating pipelines. I put together the open positions every week for PHLY's weekly newsletter, provide status updates on upcoming new hires to the recruiters, and manage the Summer Associates Blog (www.phlysummerassociates.tumblr.com). Marketing

Marketing Internship

The Marketing department is responsible for qualifying leads and soliciting business through agents, wholesalers, brokers, and companies. Our Marketing Representatives service existing business and produce profitable new business in established territories.

"As a Summer Associate, I work with the marketing team to facilitate business and bring in new leads. I am responsible for completing a combined total of 250 cold calls and ex-date calls throughout my week. Along with the calls, I am also responsible for completing weekly projects. I assisted in helping with an agency principal project along with a preferred agent agency visits project. I have also been given the opportunity to go on a marketing ride along and see what it is like to be a Marketing Representative here at PHLY. Risk Management

Risk Management Internship

The Risk Management Services team works with our customers and clients to protect their businesses by delivering quality and timely loss prevention services and risk control products. They take a look at our clients’ loss trends and try to help them improve in those areas.

Underwriting

Underwriting Internship

The Underwriting department is responsible for evaluating property & casualty insurance applications to determine the risk involved. Our underwriters then decide whether to accept or reject the application, and determine to appropriate premium.

"As an Underwriting Summer Associate, I get the chance to work on many different products within my line of business. Working in specialty property allows me to touch a wide range of insured's; I may work with products such as affordable housing, condominiums, nursing homes, hotels, strip malls and more. When I work with these products I could be doing a wide range of things, such as doing investigative work into the buildings on a policy, looking into claims and loss history or researching the area around the insured.
