THE COMPETITIVE SPIRIT STARTS AT THE TOP: PHLY CEO James Maguire
(l) and Brandon Cole (r) , a PHLY underwriter from Denver, cross finish line at
Ironman USA
The quality of a company’s employees determines the quality of its
success. At Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY), we believe the people
we work with and the environment we work in are as important as the jobs we do.
While other companies define their mission with numbers, at PHLY our mission is
all about valuing people. We are a team of motivated, high achievers committed
to delivering innovative products and unsurpassed service to niche commercial
and personal insurance markets.
The PHLY Culture
The right company culture plays a critical role in attracting and
retaining the right people in today’s competitive world. Our
talented, spirited and diverse team can be found across the country
in 39 offices that are filled with opportunities and challenges.
Don’t just take my word for it. Our employees are our best recruiters.
“I have been working at Philadelphia Insurance Companies for 18 years.
I began my career as a Claim Examiner trainee, and rose to the position
of a Senior Claims Examiner and was promoted to the position of a
Claims Business Analyst. I am proud to work for a company that values
its employees as much as its customers!” says Rhoda Bundy,
Claims Business Analyst, in our Bala Cynwyd home office.
While Bundy found claims to be her niche, PHLY offers opportunities
across multiple departments and disciplines as well, something John Doyle
knows about firsthand.
“This is the only company I’ve worked for since graduating college!
In my 16 years at PHLY, I have been afforded a well rounded
professional experience with exposure to Claims, Compliance, Marketing and
Underwriting. The culture at Philadelphia encourages education, fitness
and advancement.” says Doyle, Assistant Vice-President, Commercial
Lines Division.
Fit and Proud
In addition to veterans like Bundy and Doyle, our team has newcomers including Brandon Cole, an underwriter trainee in the Commercial Lines Division in our Denver, Colorado regional office. Cole’s willingness and ability to compete are part of the PHLY spirit.
“After graduating from Arizona State University, I was looking to work for a company that was well respected in its industry with opportunity for educational and career growth. PHLY was the perfect match. When I started working for PHLY, I learned of our active involvement in Ironman USA. With so many of the company’s leaders competing and training I couldn’t help but be motivated to start training for my first Ironman.
“The Ironman competitions truly embody what working at Philadelphia Insurance Companies is all about: being competitive, disciplined, and challenged, all while having fun!” says Cole.
The people at PHLY are proud to be associated with the company. They appreciate that we insist upon honesty and integrity in all we do. They like that the company promotes a positive and healthy environment. They are also proud that PHLY embraces diversity for the mutual benefit of employees and customers and gives back to the community through contributions to local and national charities and participation in numerous events, including the Ironman USA, which raised funds for Hurricane Katrina victims.
Competing for the Future
In addition to this positive workplace, the PHLY philosophy is played out in tangible advantages as well, from our state-ofthe- art technology and top-of-theline benefits to our unique focus on bettering both mind and body with fitness and education programs.
Our strategy is working. Thanks to the excellence of our team, our company is in great shape, rated A+ (Superior) by A.M. Best, growing fast and positioned for an exciting future.
PHLY’s past success and future growth opportunities have attracted and retained quality professionals like Tom Herendeen who like that they are valued for what they bring to the team.
“I was attracted to PHLY due to the company’s track record of success, impressive growth trend and opportunity for future development. Having spent several years with a larger insurance carrier, I was also impressed by the company’s ability to implement strategies quickly, the involvement and commitment of senior management, as well as the personal atmosphere that exists.
“My perspective and contributions are highly valued by the organization and I feel directly connected to the future of the company,” comments Herendeen, Senior Vice President, Specialty Lines Division. We invite you to consider the PHLY experience. We just might have the career niche you’ve been looking. PHLY could be the perfect fit for you and your future.
